Wereldhave Belgium owns approximately 86 % of the co-ownership of the shopping centre. It was initially built in 1967 and was renovated and expanded in 2014 for € 87m. It now consists of 27,100m² GLA with 1,250 parking spaces. Genk shopping 1 was transferred to the investment portfolio at December 31, 2014 and as at December 31, 2016, occupancy was at 81.9%.
Important tenants are Carrefour, Sportsdirect, M&S, WE, Etam, America Today and Hunkemöller.
Sustainability has played a significant role in the choice of energy-saving installations as well as in the choice of materials. Wereldhave expects that a BREEAM certificate post construction “Very Good” will be obtained in 2015, following the renovation and expansion.
