An important part of Wereldhave’s sustainability program is reducing its environmental footprint. At the start in 2014 an ambitious target was set: improve energy efficiency with 30% in 2020.
The Dutch organisation acknowledges the importance and started an intensive energy reduction program. This program includes increasing the use of renewable energy and reducing total amount of energy use. By the end of this year a total of 5,373 solar panels will be installed on the roofs of seven shopping centres in the Netherlands: Kronenburg, Winkelhof, Vier Meren, Etten-Leur, Eggert, Koperwiek and Roselaar. The solar panels will generate an estimated amount of 1,400 MWh of energy, which is the equivalent of the energy consumption of 457 Dutch households. The generated solar energy provides an average of 23% of the total energy use of the public space in our shopping centres.
In Q2 2017 solar panels will also be installed in Koningshoek Maassluis, this will bring the total amount to 5,407. For the majority of the remaining centers subsidy was requested to install more solar panels in 2017/2018.
